Nexus Driver Training will ensure you have reached the required standard for each element of the driving syllabus and are fully prepared for your driving test, allowing you to pass with confidence.
Test Day
Although you may be apprehensive, you should try to get a good nights sleep before your test. You should also ensure that you have eaten breakfast/lunch depending on your test time and have had a drink of water.
You will be picked up at your chosen destination where we will ensure you have the correct documentation/glasses before leaving for an hours warm-up drive. This will give you an opportunity to get a feel for the road and assess weather conditions.
We will arrive at the test centre approximately 15 minutes before your test time giving you plenty of time to relax. Your examiner will call your name and introduce him/herself. After checking your licence and details you will be asked to sign your test sheet. You will then lead the examiner to your car.
The Test
Your test will start with an eyesight check after which you will be asked some vehicle safety questions (show me, tell me), you will then start the practical driving test.
Your practical driving test will last about 40 minutes and your examiner will be looking for a safe, confident drive throughout. You should not worry what the examiner is doing or try to guess what they are thinking. Just relax and drive as you've been taught. This is your opportunity to demonstrate your driving skills, so enjoy it!
During the test you will be asked to carry out two set manoeuvres from the following:
- reversing around a corner
- turning in the road
- reverse parking
The reverse park can be either a bay or parallel park. You may also be asked to carry out an emergency stop exercise. Again there is no need to worry, you will be fully prepared for all the exercises.
The time on your test will fly by and before you know it you will be back at the test centre. The end of the test will be when you are asked to switch off the engine.
The result
To pass the test you must have no more than 15 driving faults, 16 faults or more is a fail. You can also fail if you commit one serious or dangerous fault regardless of how many driving faults you have.
Your examiner will tell you whether you have passed or failed and you then have an opportunity to request feedback from your examiner about your performance during the test (your instructor will join you for this). This is only the beginning of your driving career and you should listen carefully to any advice given.
You will then be driven back to your chosen destination by your instructor and look forward to your Pass Plus course...
