Completing a Pass Plus course enables new drivers to gain valuable experience in a safe environment. You can take a course any time within the first 12 months of passing your test.
What is Pass Plus?
Many new drivers find they lack the confidence and experience when faced with more challenging driving situations.
Pass Plus is a training scheme for new drivers that develops and builds on the skills you have already. The course is split into six modules covering different aspects of driving.
The benefits...
Pass Plus allows the new driver to gain valuable experience in a safe controlled environment. The key benefits are:
- More confidence in all driving situations.
- Increased awareness of other road users.
- Reduced risk of being involved in a collision.
- Saving money on car insurance premiums.
Pass Plus Modules
Town driving
Although you will have driven in town when learning to drive, this module further develops your skills in dealing with more complicated traffic situations.
All-weather driving
It is important to understand how to drive and what to expect from other road users when the weather turns bad. This module develops your understanding of driving in all-weather conditions in a practical way.

Driving out of town
Country roads can present some of the most challenging situations for the new driver. This module will focus on the hazards that you will face when driving out of town, enabling you to anticipate and deal with them safely.

Night driving
Driving at night requires different techniques to those used during the day. Dealing with dazzle, judging distance and speed and using your lights correctly are just some of the areas covered in this module.

Driving on dual carriageways
Dual carriageways are used by a wide variety of road users, from cyclists to HGVs. In this module you will learn how to drive safely on fast, multi-lane roads enhancing your skills of observation, concentration, anticipation and lane discipline.

Driving on Motorways
Motorways are some of our safest roads, however, due to the high speeds the situation can change very quickly presenting great danger. In this module you will learn how to drive on them safely and correctly under expert supervision.
The Course
The course will consist of a minimum of six hours practical training, with some of the modules being combined to maximise learning.
There is no test at the end, instead your driving will be continually assessed throughout the course. You must successfully complete all the modules in the course to an achieved or exceeded standard:
Achieved - successfully reached the standard required for each of the competencies.
Exceeded - exceeded the required standard for each of the competencies.
Once you have completed your course, your training report will be forwarded to the DSA and you will receive a certificate enabling you to claim your insurance discount.
